General
What types of fields do you work on?
Baseball and softball fields are the core of what we do, from the infield skin and pitcher’s mound to the warning track and turf. We also renovate, maintain and install football, soccer, lacrosse and other natural-grass athletic fields.
Who do you work with?
Schools, municipalities, parks departments, youth and adult leagues and other athletic organizations. Day to day that means coaches, athletic directors, facility managers and maintenance staff, and we keep communication clear with all of them.
Where are you located and how far do you travel?
Athletic Field Crew is based in West Alexandria, Ohio, west of Dayton. We work throughout the Dayton area and southwest Ohio and travel to Cincinnati, Columbus and Indianapolis. If your field is farther out, ask us and we will tell you honestly whether it makes sense.
How do I get a quote?
Use the Request Quote form or call (937) 915-6006. Tell us the type of field, what needs work and when you would like it done. We look at usage, drainage, soil, turf and budget before recommending anything.

Renovation
What does a baseball field renovation include?
We inspect the infield, outfield, mound, home plate, bases, warning track and drainage; sod-cut the dirt edges and fill holes and low spots with the proper infield mix; rebuild the mound and batter’s box with clay; drag and laser-grade the infield so it sheds water; check the bases, plate and pitching rubber; then walk the whole field before handing it back.
How is softball field renovation different from baseball?
The process is the same, but the layout is not. Softball fields have a flat pitching circle rather than a raised mound, a smaller infield and different base and pitching distances, so every measurement, edge and grade is set to the softball layout your league plays on.
Do you renovate football, soccer and lacrosse fields?
Yes. We inspect the field for damaged or worn areas, repair low or uneven spots, add soil or other material where needed to level the surface, then reseed or resod damaged grass and fertilize to help it recover.

Maintenance
Do you offer recurring field maintenance?
Yes. We offer ongoing maintenance packages as well as one-time services. Recurring packages are customized to the type of field, how heavily it is used and what the facility needs, so no two plans are identical.
What is included in a recurring maintenance package?
Typical packages cover turf maintenance, lining and striping, infield grooming and dragging, base and mound care, warning track upkeep, fertilization and soil amendments, weed and pest control, aeration and overseeding, irrigation checks, infield top-dressing and leveling, turf repair in high-traffic areas, edge maintenance, safety inspections, debris cleanup and seasonal preparation and shutdown.
When should seasonal field maintenance happen?
There are three natural points: pre-season, right before opening day; the spring start of the season; and the fall close-out. Each visit has its own checklist, and a recurring plan schedules them for you.

Installation
What are the steps in building a new baseball or softball field?
First we plan and measure the area so the dimensions and layout are correct. Then we prepare and level the ground, install proper drainage and build the base areas for the infield and warning track. Finally, we add the correct soil and turf materials, install the grass and build the pitcher’s mound, home plate and base areas.
Do you seed or sod new fields?
Either. Once the soil is prepared we install the turf by seeding or by laying sod, depending on your timeline, budget and when the field needs to be playable.

What field materials do you sell?

Can I pick up materials or do you deliver?
Both. Materials can be picked up in West Alexandria, Ohio, or delivered to your field. Tell us which you prefer when you order and we will confirm the details.
