Building a Field That Plays Well for Years

Athletic field construction is where the decisions that affect a field for decades get made: how it is oriented, how it drains, what the infield is built from and how the turf is established. Athletic Field Crew brings backgrounds in turf management, field construction and excavation to every new field, and one of our owners came to the company directly from an excavating business. We plan and measure first, build drainage into the ground rather than adding it later, and choose soil and turf materials for the way the field will actually be used.

Football, Soccer and Lacrosse Field Installation

  • 1. Survey and Measure

We survey and measure the area to determine the correct layout and dimensions for the sport and level of play.
  • 2. Clear, Grade and Drain

The site is cleared, the soil graded and leveled, and proper drainage and irrigation systems are installed.
  • 3. Prepare and Install Turf

The soil is prepared and the turf installed, either by seeding or by laying sod, depending on timeline and budget.

Built With the Right Materials

New ball fields are built with Washington Ball Mix infield mix, Marco Clay warning track material, Profile Products 5 Star packing clay and MoundMaster clay blocks for mounds and batter’s boxes, and Turface conditioner worked into the skin. The same products are available to your crew on the athletic field materials page, so the field can be maintained with what it was built from.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install drainage and irrigation on new fields?

Yes. Proper drainage is built into every new field, and for football, soccer and other turf fields we install irrigation systems as part of site preparation.

How do you build a new football or soccer field?

We survey and measure the area to determine the correct layout and dimensions, clear the site, grade and level the soil, install drainage and irrigation, then prepare the soil and install the turf by seeding or laying sod.

Who do you work with?

Schools, municipalities, parks departments, youth and adult leagues and other athletic organizations. Day to day that means coaches, athletic directors, facility managers and maintenance staff, and we keep communication clear with all of them.
